| The History of Christening Outfits began in the late 18th century as a white gown; know as a lawn that is longer than the baby and fancier than a day gown. The church insisted on white for all christening and baptism outfits to symbolize purity and innocence. During the 18th century the christening outfits were created from silks and satin and were finely embroidered. In the 19th century cotton became more accessible and popular; becoming the fabric of choice for special occasion clothing. Intricate white work patterns began to emerge, lovingly embroidered onto fine white cotton outfits that created fashionable boys christening clothing that mimicked the styles of the period. We are particularly proud of our collection of silk and European christening outfits for boys and hope you will enjoy them as much as we do. |
